Station Road flats plan re-submitted

PLANS to build a block of flats in an already densely populated area have been re-submitted.

The site in Station Road, West Drayton, is currently the site of an old Vauxhall car dealership, which would be demolished to make way for the flats.

It is not the first time developers have attempted to build flats on the site, this April, councillors rejected plans for a mixed use development of flats and a shop.

Residents living in Drayton Gardens petitioned against the plans at the time, for the reasons that they would add to parking troubles in the area, and the flats would overlook their gardens.

The new application is for 43 flats, rather than 41 like before, but it does not include an space for a shop, which was one of the main reasons the flats were rejected last time.

It was feared that a shop would only serve to increase traffic, and would serve to pull people away from the high street stores, many of which lie empty, and there were fears the unit would lie vacant for a substantial amount of time.

The Yiewsley and West Drayton Community Involvement Group also expressed concerns that the area was becoming over developed, with too many properties, and a shortage of services such as doctors and schools.

The developers, P Win Developments Ltd, have already carried out a public consultation, although the Gazette received phonecalls earlier this month from residents complaining that the consultation was not widespread enough.

The site has history going back further than April, in September 2007, an application to build flats on it was rejected on the grounds it was trying to cram too many people into too small a space.
