Passengers rescued from burning train

A TRAIN carrying over 200 passengers caught fire and had to be evacuated on Sunday afternoon.

The national rail train was leaving West Drayton Station in the direction of Hayes and Harlington Station on Sunday when it caught fire.

The train had to be stopped and all passengers evacuated through a hole in the trackside fence onto a pathway, before being escorted to safety.

15 firefighters and three fire engines were called from a combination of Heathrow and Hayes fire stations.

The brigade was called at 12.08pm and the fire was under control by 1.30pm.

A London Fire Brigade Spokesperson said the diesel engine on board was damaged by fire, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

We'd like to hear from you.
