A THEATRE company in Yiewsley teamed up with local police to stage a play about bogus doorstep callers.

The Attic Theatre Company at the Cornerstone Centre in Yew Avenue on September 27 performed 'Ma Kelly's Doorstep', a play focussing on the issue of bogus callers and how to deal with them.

The Yiewsley safer neighbourhoods team (SNT) identified and invited local vulnerable persons and the elderly to see the play, while a crime prevention stall was manned at the venue by a local crime prevention officer.

UX240910amivy01.jpgA CLUB steward who was robbed by two 'low-life thugs' in broad daylight has told of his terrifying ordeal.

Steven Bristow (pictured), 47, has been left traumatised after being targeted by two men while on route to the bank with the takings of the Ivy Leaf Memorial Club, in Wimpole Road, Yiewsley.

The father-of-three and grandfather-of-one was walking in nearby Bentinck Road carrying about £4,500 in cash when he was attacked, on Monday, September 13.

The social club is offering a £1,000 reward for anyone who can provide information that will lead to the conviction of the offenders.

A NEW £40 million recycling facility and civic amenity site is being planned at a former railway sidings in the south of the borough.

Powerday, a family owned business, want to build the 'state-of-the-art' facility at the Old Coal Depot, in Tavistock Road, Yiewsley.

More than 950,000 tonnes of material of waste would be recycled each year, that would otherwise end up in landfill sites.

A NURSERY which received an 'inadequate' report from OfSTED says it has responded to criticisms and improved.

Government inspectors OfSTED visited Happy Tree Nursery in Admiralty Close, West Drayton in June, publishing their report this summer.

The report criticised the nursery for failing to carry out CRB checks on its staff, and was failing to keep records of where children were, and who was caring for them.

LEASEHOLDERS are locked in a dispute with Hillingdon Homes over repairs to their roofs, which will cost them between £4,000 and £6,000 each.

A meeting was held at Meadow Community Centre, in Wise Lane, West Drayton, last Wednesday (8) to thrash out a solution to the proposals, but no conclusion has so far been reached. Hillingdon Homes say they are hoping to finalise a decision by the end of the month.

Hillingdon Homes, a private company which will wind up in November, as housing stock returns to local authority control, is attempting to make permanent repairs to dozens of roofs in West Drayton, claiming patch up jobs will not stand the test of time.

A 'DIAMOND' couple celebrated their wedding anniversary by going to their old school reunion.

Daphne and Arthur New, both in their 80s, have been married for 60 years, and live in Frays Close, West Drayton.

thbeforeandafter.jpgA GROUP of activists who 'swooped' on a derelict market garden in opposition to Heathrow's third runway are being threatened with eviction.

Transition Heathrow, a group of youngsters in their 20s, living in Harlington High Street, set up a project called 'Grow Heathrow' in March.

They claimed the patch of land in Vineries Close, Sipson, which had laid unused, and have since cleared it up, and turned it into a 'community hub' for the village.
